Painting #6 - Mountain River

Mountain River
7"x5" Oil on Canvas Panel

Here is my 6th painting. I actually feel pretty good about this one. I used a palette knife on the rocks and I really like the texture it gave them. On this one I concentrated more on painting shapes instead of trying to get in a lot of detail.

You're moving in the right direction. Both Richard Schmid and Kevin McPherson emphasize focusing attention on shapes and colors and ignoring details. Doing this, whatever details are needed usually take care of themselves.

Hi Dianne - thanks for stopping in. For something to sound so simple as focusing your attention on shapes and colors it can be more difficult than one would think. My brain argues with my eyes and hand. There has been a lot of arguing going on lately! This one "felt" better in many ways though.

I did an update to the river - posted it just a bit ago - I hope that it helps.

Yep, it's you mind arguing with what your eyes see. Your mind wants images, things, all that, but your eye wants shapes, colors, values. But bit by bit, your eyes will win out.
