Karin Jurick has started this wonderful Different Strokes from Different Folks blog where she posts a reference picture each Wednesday and artists submit their interpretations of the reference to her and she posts them. It is a lot of fun and great to see how so many artist can paint from the same reference and come up with so many wonderfully different pieces. Thanks Karin - what a great idea!

I agree that "Different Strokes" is a great idea, but haven't had the time yet to participate. Your pastel is a nice interpretation of the photo. I'd never have thought to make up a scene and just use parts as reference the way you have. Although a "fictional" scene, a very convincing one. The softness of the pastel is perfect for that soft sandy, peaceful beach subject, I can almost hear the waves and gulls.

Hi Marilyn - thanks for dropping by. I hope you will find time to participate in "Different Strokes" one of these days.

I'm trying to look at things differently - I want to loosen up a bit with my pastels so doing part of or adding bits and pieces really helps me to think outside of the box (or photo) ;-)

Thanks again!
