I thought I'd try another citrus painting. This was going good until the background became rather muddy - so I made it black. I can see I need to fix some edges but for all practical purposes it's complete.
I think I'll go peel me an orange to eat - how about you?

How do you do that? They look real enough to eat!! Great painting...

Hi Ann - thanks! LOL I've tried not to do this (paint so realistically) and I can't - I'm glad you like it.

Absolutely stunning! I think the black background actually helps these orange slices stand out well. Great work!

These orange slices are beautiful. The background has the right level of blue to make the oranges stand out, great!

Karen, these fruits and vegetables are exceptional. You really are skilled with these pastels. Love your take on Karin's challenge.

Thanks Akiko! I'm glad you like the background. Even though it wasn't what I planned I think it worked out too.

Hey Carolina - thank you. The orange slices were fun to work on.

Hi Vern - thank you so much. I love working with pastels. Karin's challenge was fun.

Karen, as to your response about painting so realistically....ditto here. As hard as I try to loosen up, the more detailed I seem to get. I'm using larger brushes which was someone's suggestion...my next step, I think, is to paint something upside down (the painting, not me) where you see shapes and not objects. I did that once ages ago, but think it's worth a try again!
Thanks for your comment on the veggies.

Ann - I think painting upside down is a good experience - you can see my attempt here - not sure I lost any of the details I just looked at them differently: http://karenhargettsfineartjournal.blogspot.com/2008/11/city-walker-aka-upside-down-walker.html

For a while I was frustrated with my "style" and then decided that is just me and let it go - so at least for today that is what I do and if it changes in the future then that will be me too ;-)
