My Billy Bob - The Beauty of Power and Grace - An Original Pastel

My Bill Bob - The Beauty of Power and Grace
11" x 14"
Pastels on Velour
Not for Sale

As many of you know, this is my Billy Bob.  He is an Appaloosa.  I've had him since he was four and he is now 23 and with each year getting whiter and whiter.

Billy Bob has been the subject of a few of my graphites and pastels - check them out on my website - I'm sure you will recognize him.  I did a similar pastel of him a while back but it ended up being cropped and done a little differently because I had some problems - which we all know happens from time to time. This is the crop I wanted to do from the beginning and while I'm not completely finished with it I thought I'd share it with you.

I like the name I've chosen for this pastel because he was exhibiting such beauty and power the day I took the reference photo.  Horses are just such magnificent animals - power, grace and beauty all packed into one animal - awesome!

Acts 15:11 (King James Version)
11But we believe that through the grace of the LORD Jesus Christ we shall be saved, even as they.

This is wonderful Karen! I also was raised in TX - on a ranch with quite a few horses ... they are an amazing animal! You've shown him so well!

Thank you Helen! I didn't learn to ride until I was 40 but would love to be on a ranch now. It must have been great growing up like that.

Just beautiful Karen, I have never spent any time around horses but they are gorgeous animals. I have a few friends that ride and they love their horses so much, I guess it's the love you have for any pet.

Wow - Karen from the photos I have seen of him, you painted him so true to his being. He IS power and beauty! Your love for him shows through this wonderful portrait. (I always wanted a horse...perhaps we will be getting one some day - that or a donkey.) IN the meantime I will live and love them vicariously through you and others who own them!

Pattie - what a nice compliment - thank you! I hope one day you can get a horse - you will love it - great experience and you learn so much about yourself.

What a beautiful horse! The title is perfect. I also love the 5x7 white horse; it's so graceful.

Thanks Dean! It was fun to paint him. I see some things I'd do differently next time but I'm pleased over all.
