This one started off much different than it ended up. I had originally had in my mind doing a praying man, praying for our nation. I have this overwhelming concern for our nation, that our leaders are changing it from the inside out and we are going to end up bankrupt, socialized and living in a Marxist country with no voice of freedom allowed anywhere.

I had e-mail Dean Haven to see if he had any photo references he could send me. He has done some incredible praying men in the past including his most current piece In God We Still Trust. He was kind enough to share with me the reference he used in for that painting from Wet Canvas.

I started on my painting earlier today and then it started going in another direction but I had already put in my background and couldn't correct it without it looking muddy. So I started over knowing this time the direction I wanted to go or was being led to go.
My painting reminds me of some old Biblical paintings of our Lord. When thinking about why the direction of my painting changed, because I really had it in my mind to do something completely different, I decided it really hadn't changed - after all we are to bring all things to Him in prayer. It was a neat feeling completing the painting as He wanted me to.
Matthew 6:9-13
Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be Thy name.
Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil:
For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever.
Amen.

I'm still having a bit of a problem getting back to painting regularly but saw the sunset tonight and thought I'd paint one. It was dark outside by the time I got around to getting my paper and all so I looked through some photos and pulled one for this painting. It's amazing sometimes the colors in the sunsets here - God has a great palette.

1 Corinthians 2:9
However, as it is written: “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love him”

I've had the reference picture for this painting forever. I think it might have been taken in Colorado but it's been so long ago I can't remember. It was a very peaceful scene with the morning fog dissipating and the horses grazing.

I went to scan this and it looked horrible so I took it outside and set it on a bench and took a picture of it - scanning is so much easier and I get the high resolution I need for making prints but there are times the scanner and pastels just don't get along and the color isn't anywhere near the original - so that is when I use my camera. I used my little camera for this photo of the piece but I will need to get my big camera out and take a proper picture of it so I'll have the high resolution needed for prints - for now this works though.
Genesis 1:5
God called the light day, and the darkness He called night And there was evening and there was morning, one day.
