I have a couple of nests in my house that I have accumulated over the years.  I find them very intriguing the way they are put together and, in fact, marvel how birds manage to even make them.  The nests hold their shape so well, while looking rather delicate, and provide a safe home for something as delicate as a bird's eggs.  This nest is full of promises.

2 Corinthians 1:20 (New American Standard Bible)

For as many as are the promises of God, in Him they are yes; therefore also through Him is our Amen to the glory of God through us.

The other night I caught this glorious sunset with my camera from my backyard.  It was breathtaking!  I decided it would make a beautiful painting with all it's colors and cloud shapes.  I think Texas has some of the most beautiful sunsets and sunrises around - but then I'm partial - being from Texas and all.

1 Chronicles 16:10 (New International Version)
Glory in his holy name; let the hearts of those who seek the LORD rejoice.

Here in Texas there is a place called the Lost Maples.  It is exactly as it sounds, an area of land with maple trees and "lost" because maple trees aren't native to Texas at all.  They do seem to thrive in the hill country though and is a beautiful place to visit.  The photo I used as inspiration was taken of a maple leaf just lazily drifting in the creek.  The water was so clear that it really didn't show up in the photo so I added a little "water" effect.

Come close to God and He will come close to you.

This is a new challenge I'm participating in.  The Monthly Challenge Painting blog.  I thought it might be fun to participate in another challenge blog because it's good experience and a way to show my work and "meet" new people.  Now to figure out how to link it - hope it works!

A friend of mine is always taking pictures and she takes great pictures all the time - even with her cell phone.  This is one of her photographs of her cats that she has allowed me to paint.  I started to do a 5" x 7" but decided to do an ACEO instead. I'm glad because I think the small size fits it.

My Entries for Austin Pastel Society Annual Juried Member Exhibition

The Austin Pastel Society is having their Annual Juried Member Exhibition with Juror and Judge Claudia Seymour.  Each member could send in up to three images.  I submitted these three:

There is some stiff competition! To say we have some very talented artists in this group is an understatement. Whoever is selected, their art will hang in the Corridor of Art from March through May. We will find out who has been accepted in February.  So. . .here's hoping I make it!

James 1:4 (New International Version)
Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.

At one house I used to have, I had grapes growing in the flowerbed by the back porch. The vines would climb up the posts of the wooden porch cover and go over the top making some pretty nice shade. In good years, the grapes hung in large bunches from the vine between the wooden slats. This pastel reminds me of that back porch.

First Pastel of 2010 - Yellowstone Wolf - Original Pastel

Here is my first pastel for 2010. I took the reference photo for this painting when I was in Yellowstone in 2008. I was mesmerized by the wolves at the Grizzly and Wolf Center. Their howl isn't at all like a coyote's shrill "yip" of a howl, which I have heard often, but more melodic and soft - almost haunting. It was beautiful! If I ever get the chance I want to go back to Yellowstone - it was a trip of a lifetime for me that I'll remember forever.
