The Sandia Mountains

The Sandia Mountains

I recently did this pastel of the Sandia Mountains for someone very special in my life, my daughter.  She loves the Sandia Mountains. It was a Christmas gift and now that Christmas is over I thought I'd share it with you.

I used velour paper and Rembrandt pastels.  It is 11" x 14".  I was fortunate that I had a frame and mat that would work well with it.

Here is the WIP (work in progress):

First I sketched in the entire scene then concentrated on the clouds and sky.  They were magnificent and I wanted to make sure I caught the "boiling" effect they had and all the different colors in them.

As I finished up the clouds I started on the mountains.  They had a lot of craggy edges and details to capture.

Finally, I wanted to catch the light reflected on the mountains from sun and the storm.  I think it turned out pretty well and as it turns out that special person loved it and that made it all worthwhile!!

I  hope you all had a very Merry Christmas and were able to spend time with family and friends.  I'm wishing you a very Happy New Year and praying 2021 is much better than 2020 has been for most people bringing us all joy, peace and hope.

Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost.

Pat-a-Cake, Pat-a-Cake

I hope you all are doing well and ready for Christmas.

I recently finished this commission of a precious little girl for a wonderful lady.  It is her granddaughter and she plans to give it as a Christmas gift to the parents.

It was a fun piece to work on and kind of challenging at the same time with those cute little fingers involved.  I caught myself counting them constantly to make sure I got them right.

Here is the WIP (work in progress):

The next challenge was to find a frame.  I say "challenge" because my favorite frame shop went out of business and I ending up shopping both on-line and curbside.  After ordering three frames I chose this one.  I think it sets the pastel off nicely and my customer loved it as well which always makes me happy.

All framed and ready to be delivered:

I hope you all have a very Merry Christmas and remember the reason we celebrate the season.

And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. ~  Luke 2:10 | King James Version
